EU Regulation (EU) 2023/1115 on Deforestation-Free Products
It has recently been announced that the above Regulation which was due to come into force on the 30 December 2025 (after a one year delay from 2024) will be delayed for a further year until 2026.
The implementation of the EUDR requires an IT information system to be developed, managed and maintained by the Commission. This IT system must be able to handle all the transactions for products covered by the EUDR and initiated by economic operators in the scope of the EUDR, both upstream and downstream, inside and outside the EU. It is reported that the IT system in its current form, is likely to be unable to handle the volume of information required and would be unacceptably slow.
The Commission will have to adopt a proposal and launch a legislative procedure (adoption by both Parliament and Council) to confirm this. It possible that some aspects of the Regulation will be simplified at the same time as the adoption of the delay.
